Spanish-language soap operas or telenovelas have a huge market not only in Spanish-speaking countries like Spain, Mexico, Peru or Venezuela. In fact, Spanish operas have become such huge hits, that they are exported to a number of countries, where they are dubbed in the local language. In the United States, Univision Communications Inc. lord over at the ratings game, producing some of the most well loved daytime soap operas.

Telenovelas have also gained strong followings in Russia, France and Eastern Europe and in most Asian countries: the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Singapore, Korea and Japan.

This is why Latino stars are gaining international following outside of their home countries. One of the more recognizable Latina actresses is Carolina Tejera. Carolina Tejera started to play bit roles in soap operas at the age of 17, but has since reached lead star status or more specifically lead villain status. Carolina doesn’t mind playing the role of the villain, especially since she is living a good life. Just this year (2006), Carolina had her own fairy-tale wedding in Costa Rica to her prince charming Don Stockwell.

Typical of Spanish-language soap opera stars, Carolina Tejera is often photographed in revealing outfits and wears her hair long and blonde. Her look obviously appeals to her legion of fans. Carolina Tejera has the sultry look that makes her easier to hate when she plays the role of the antagonist. "How can she be so beautiful and yet be so cruel?", you might ask when watching one of her soaps. And then you realize, beauty is really not measurable by just the physical attributes. All soap operas have underlying moral lessons and judging a person by his physical appearance and this is often one of the lessons first revealed in these TV dramas.

Of course, Carolina is an actor assigned to do a job. In real life, she is nothing like the characters she plays in the telenovelas. She is a strong-willed woman all right, but also one with a good heart and a sensible mind. She has patiently paid her dues and worked her way to the top. Stardom did not come instantly for this actress and she continues to work on her craft and her career even now that she is already popular.

Aside from the TV projects, Carolina has also done sizzling photo shoots for magazines and calendars. This year she released her own calendar, just like she did in 2000 and 2001.

More than her dedication to her work, she is also dedicated to her loving husband and continues to lead a quiet married life that everyone in her life, including her fans, hope will be "happily ever after".
